Thumbs up to all you teachers and assistants!

If you are a teacher and reading this right now, I salute you! First of all, trying to accommodate a child with autism when responsible for the needs of many children is a heavy responsibility. Whether you teach a categorical room, or general education, if you are on this page seeking to learn more, and sharing what you have learned, I take my hat o...ff to you! We need more of you in our school systems, teaching and supporting our children.

With all the challenges involved in including children with autism, it can be overwhelming when trying to meet the all the needs of the entire class. Besides being limited by the academic standards you have to meet, the demands and limitations placed on you by administration, and the pressures that parents and professional staff put on you, trying to meet the individual needs of children with multiple challanges is an overwhelming task. Even when you know what the child needs, and want so badly to meet them, often the limited resources and demands of administration leave you helpless to meet those needs.

You are stuck in the middle between demands of the state, administration, parents, professionals, and the children themselves. Knowing what you want to do, and what you are capable of doing, often come into conflict. However, everyday you embrace the challenge, love the children, teach, mentor, and care for all our vulnerable loved ones! Please continue to learn, grow, and advocate for our children. You are second, only to their parents, in being the most significant person in their life. We salute you for joining us! Please invite others in your system to join us!
